Expansion Rumors…

I don't understand why the SEC or the BIG would want any of the marquee teams from the ACC. It would make more sense to take mid-tier teams in larger market that they don't already have a presence in.

Why would Alabama, UGA, UF and LSU want to make their schedules tougher than they already are in conference? The SEC is already viewed as the toughest conference. If they want to expand there is no reason to take FSU, Clemson or Miami, they already have that market with UF. It would only make it harder for a couple of teams to go undefeated to the playoffs. It would be a stronger move to look at Virginia and UNC for the SEC. Two middle of the road teams that won't rock the boat of the established players. It would also open two new markets in already neighboring states.

The BIG may want a Florida team as they are becoming a national conference with California schools. Both FSU and UM are recent powers in a good TV market. We fit that same bill. I believe that the BIG will be looking to get a southern foothold and with ATL and Miami being huge TV markets will be on the expansion list.

The mega conferences are going to need teams that they believe their current teams can handle or even take a breather against. We certainly would be viewed as that after the past 3 seasons.

Expansion is an opportunity for these mega conferences to pick the winners and losers of the future of college football. If the ACC folds why not just let FSU and Clemson wither on the vine. UGA, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, etc. can beat teams without ever meeting them on the field. If the smaller conferences fold who with the big teams play if they can only schedule AAC teams at best.

I still can't get over locking in media rights to 2036.

Is there a legal "we got ööööed" option? No ACC schools should be happy about this.

And Clemson can go öööö themselves. If the BIG10 and SEC decided to take GT, Miami, and FSU, and leave Clemson in the ACC, Clemson would quickly regress into an AAC type school.

They love to think of themselves as an SEC school. Clemson is about the same size as GT, enrollment wise. We are every bit as appealing as they are, especially since Clemson is about to hit a bit of a skid. Trevor Lawrence was their heyday.

Why did they add OK and TX? I mean, these are 2/6 non-SEC schools that have won a national championship in this century. Using your logic that was dumb, but that is old logic thinking solely about media markets.

The new market is the 12 team playoff. And looking at this like the NCAA 68 team tournament there will be 1-bid leagues and there will be multi-bid leagues. The SEC feels like with their strength, a team could lose 1-2 games and still be in the field of 12. There are 6 conferences who will be guaranteed 1 bid. The SEC thinks they can get 4-6 bids (would have had 3 in 2022). B1G added USC and UCLA for the same reason thinking they can get 2-4 bids. ACC will be viewed as a 1-bid league and that doesn't sit well with Clemson, Miami and FSU. Shouldn't sit well with GT either as we represent the only 3 ACC teams that have actually won a national championship (as ACC members).

Clemson asking for more money than other schools for tv rights. If this is a repost go öööö yourselves.
Yes, and this is where the "premier" conference happens. There is no reason for a Vandy, Miss State, or Mississippi to stay in the SEC if their payola is reduced. Figures that Clemson would be the stooge to mention it first. They are already on the way back down. They have no leverage at all. Neither the SECheat nor the B1G wants them. They bring nothing but another tough out to either league. Further that kind of talk doesn't ingratiate you to your own conference partners and it doesn't sell well to future conference partners. Really, it's a stupid statement to make publicly.

Seems like an early sign of cracks in the conference if Clemson is willing to say “öööö you, Wake and BC, we’re taking your share.” It seems unfathomable to me that the conference or lower level teams would agree to an uneven split.

Shows how bush league Clemson is. You don't see UGAg and Alabama saying "öööö you Vandy, Missouri, Kentucky....you get 70% now"

Clemson thinks they swing some sort of big dick now.

I believe the new model is going to be streaming, and the SEC and BIG are going to be trying to setup marque matchups within their conferences to pull eyes from the other conf, Clemson and FSU bring that. The BIG and SEC are money hungry and always looking forward to the next contract, and with the ever-expanding playoffs looking to maximize teams that can get in there and not so much worried about the premier teams of the league losing a game or two.

all that being said F#ck Clemson and FSU for bringing up unequal revenue sharing in the ACC, what a great way to make everyone hate your guts forever.

No way would they agree to that, but is there anything legally that keeps it from being forced upon them?

The Big10 will not add FSU. They would add GT and Miami if the GOR goes away. The best option for FSU and Clemson is the Big12.

The Big10 could have two divisions:
South/East - Miami, GT, Maryland, PSU, Rutgers, Purdue, Indiana, OSU, NW, Illinois
North/West - USC, UCLA, Oregon, Wash. Nebraska, Minn, Wisconsin, Iowa, Mich, Mich St

UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham and university president Kevin Guskiewicz discussed the idea of a merger between the ACC and the Pac-12 to text messages obtained by The News and Observer.

  • “Should we explore a partnership with the Pac 12(?)” Cunningham texted.
  • Guskiewicz replied: “We could have a super conference both athletically and academically. Probably would need to be called the Atlantic-Pacific Athletic Conference (APAC).”

Here's average TV viewership for NCAA football in 2021 for the ACC, B1G, and SECheat. Read 'em and weep, ACC. This is why you don't get the big bucks, but it's also why nobody's rushing to poach teams from the ACC. Clempson and FSU, you got bigger problems than you are admitting, thinking you are a prize for another conference. You may be a top dog in the TV Midget Conference, Clempson, but you are no better than 7th in the B1G and 11th in the SECheat. They ain't knocking on your door, son, at least not until they kick USCe out first. The main thing I see here is the boredom present in the rust belt and rural midwest and south.

USC and UCLA are further down the list than FSU/Clemson, things worked out pretty good for them.......if FSU/Clem starts playing SEC teams on espn primetime what do you think will happen to their viewership numbers?

The main thing that I see here is that Rutgers draws more TV viewers than Georgia Tech.

I don't disagree that the future is streaming but there are only so many eyeballs and time slots. Not every game can be Marquee vs Marquee as you just begin to cannibalize viewership.

Also at some point these Conferences will get to a size where they will only be playing Conference teams. No more out of conference games and no more D2 patsy. Assuming a 12 game regular season schedule plus conference championship games plus playoffs you are looking at some teams playing 16 games a season. Teams are going to need a break from the grind of playing strong teams. Every conference will need to have some Dukes and Vandys.

This seems like an exercise in confirmation bias.

The schools with the most prime time or best TV/channel lineup selections get the better ratings. Then, when it comes around to deciding who gets the primo slots and channels, then be sure to use the teams with the best ratings.
