Expansion Rumors…

The main thing to note is that the UNC AD never said he wanted TV revenue distribution based on which teams people were watching. Probably wants it to be based on time in league or how close to a national championship a team reached that year (regardless of in which sport of course).

He specifically said "number of sports offered". And UNC has scholarship teams for everything from water polo to hackey sack.

The only school complaining that gives me heart burn is UNC. They’re one of the biggest reasons the conference never lived up to its potential, in terms of payouts they should be happy to get whatever they get.

As for theoretical rebuilding of the conference, you’ve got the wrong teams in there. You definitely want:
GT, FSU, UM, Clemson, VPI, NCSt, UNC, and UVA.
That’s a solid 8. Bring in WVU for 9. Round robin, plenty of annual rivalries and a more compelling schedule for every single program in the conference. Every program still has room for 4 OOC matchups and a good chance to go bowling even if they’re at the bottom of the conference, so long as they stay committed to strong football.

I would bring in Pitt and WVU for a 10 team conference (round robin). Go ahead and add a top two championship game since the money would be free.

Regional concept went out with the addition of tamu and mizzou;it was even a stretch with LSU and ARK. I agree they may/will try to poach the schools mentioned.

Well if you think about it the SEC follows the map of the states in the CSA (purely as an example). With the exception of Oklahoma that joins in the next year or so. Mizzou was a border state. I guess Josey Wales could argue a case for them being in the SEC lol. Adding the tarholes, FSU and Clemson would make sense. We're not in the convo because we're the 'nerd' in the room that some think we don't belong. Just the big factories. We should be.

We should go independent. Bally Sports to Georgia Tech as NBC to ND. Just emailed JBatt.

Not sure how that would have any more appeal than the current ACC?

At least there would be fewer games at almost empty pro stadiums, like I keep seeing at Pitt, and games at far away places like B.C. and Syracuse. I am not criticizing those schools. They are good schools with good fans. I just never felt much football atmosphere from those games. I think that the ACC-new conference playing 10 conference games a year might have some appeal the current ACC does, but I don't think it will happen. I just don't like the current ACC. Maybe it makes sense with respect to TV money and I don't fully understand that. I just think like a fan.

Are you referring to their local affiliates or the national channels?

I meant Nat'l. CBS w/SEC package and Fox w/Big 10 in the context of your comment about ESPN being the only broadcaster.

You joke, but eventually everyone will be mostly independent. This is cable television all over again.
Money, like water, will seek its own level.

Fair call-out. I should've brought up the national broadcasters, but as they're sharing time spots between all conferences it's a rather miniscule amount - not even enough to satisfy 1 conferences needs. I actually forgot about the sec and big10 packages being with them. I thought they were with espn. Thanks for pointing that out.

That certainly changes things, but I'm not sure how much tbh. A market of 3 known buyers is small. Perhaps the acc should pursue abc or another national broadcaster about a conference channel.
