Jackets in the draft

Just for comparison, Tennessee has 13 players in NFL camps (drafts plus free agents) and went 4-8.
 
I think there is broad consensus that better players, in general, both help you win on Saturdays and have a higher chance of playing on Sundays when they leave. This doesnt mean we won't still have to outsmart/outcoach/outscheme, because the talent gap will still exist. The goal is to make it smaller, and steps are being taken with that in mind.

The Buccaneers drafted a guy from Humboldt State, Div II. Interior lineman, playing division II is more sought after than anyone on our team.

The measures will not be sufficient because they were too, too late. The other more prestigious programs that we have to play EVERY FREAKIN YEAR are already a freight train running downhill. People tout that Clempsen didn't have any high picks this year--that was because their premier players were underclassmen that opted to return to play one more year for Clempsen. Next year they will have two and maybe three first rounders off of their defensive line alone. With replacement talent waiting in the wings. Us hiring a recruiting "analyst" won't help one bit.

Zackley. Some is the SEC bias. But Tennessee fans bemoaned Butch's lack of recruiting, and yet more than a dozen get an NFL tryout. The ACC had 48 players drafted---none from Tech. Only conference with more was the SEC. Big Ten third with 32.
 
The correlation between number of players in the NFL and college wins is pretty much established. Of the top 10 schools with number of NFL roster players, seven have played for a national championship in the last 10 years. Nine of ten if you want to go back to 2002.

However unfair and stacked the deck is against GT these days... it was much more unfair and stacked against us a lot more in decades past. The playing field of college football is more level now than it's been at least since integration.

Tennessee even under Butch did not have weak recruiting classes, stop making stuff up just to rant.

Tennessee’s signing class last year was ranked 17th in the 247Sports Composite, marking the first time since 2013 that the Vols were outside the top 15.

When you complain that recruiting is a problem because you dropped to 17th nationally when your coach's seat is on fire, that is just dumb. Tennessee's problem has been 'X's and O's' not 'Jimmys and Joes'; which is why they are expecting a quick turn around.

So I'm unclear. If our efforts to improve recruiting are pointless, your solution is to fire the guy who has managed to keep us competitive with lesser talent? Or are you saying just give up entirely?

It is such a stupid argument. Player turnover is almost 100% after 5 years. Prior recruiting can have 0 impact on the future.

If anything, Tennessee fans praised Butch’s recruiting as one of the few things he did right.

Butch’s recruiting was what got him fired. But it was because UT fans thought he was wasting the talent he was bringing in.

The same thing happened to Richt at uga. The bs about him not recruiting the big uglies was to cover Smart’s poor first year.

We could use a boost in recruiting. Getting that 6’7” receiver who picked VT over us a few years ago is a good example. We’ve got to get better at closing.
 
Just curious how many other P5 schools got shut out of the draft this year? Maybe its not such an uncommon thing?
 
Talk about a trailing indicator. Did we really need to see where our guys were drafted (or not) to know that we had a bad season last year? And did anyone really think the problem was *all* bad play-calling?
