And Tech played UGA, Auburn, and Tennessee on a yearly basis long after that.Because Bobby Dodd took us out of the SEC and caused disinterest in the local Atlanta fan base. /thread
We would still be playing in a packed stadium with plenty of cash flow from merchandising had we stayed in the SEC.

Since our last two hires, I'm starting to change my opinion of Dan Radakovich. I wonder why he left Clemson for Miami. As for as Homer Rice, the stadium should be called Dodd/Rice Stadium at Historic Grant Field.IMHO, piss-poor AD's have been the main reason our athletic programs have failed, mainly because of the
contracts they have given unproven coaches. The two that come to mind are DB and our current AD TS.
Those two AD's saddled the GTAA with contracts for former coaches that nearly broke us. Somewhere
out there, there has to be another AD with brains like Dr. Homer Rice! Just an opinion from an old fart
who has been watching GT Sports since 1958.
Isn't the goal to win the conference, and more if you deserve it? What has the bottom half of the sec benefitted from in that regard, seeing as how they haven't smelled an sec title or a MNC for decades. Full houses are overrated unless you are playing poker. And it wasn't a SEC matchup, so those teams could still recruit against us with the "come play in the SEC" mantra. We were ineligible for conference championships..yea? If you can't see that leaving the SEC was a mistake then I can't help you.
Even when we sucked, when we played SEC schools we did it in a full house; so what did we do? We ripped out the south stands to keep our stadium from turning orange and red.

But huge annual conference payouts would have prevented our financial disaster.Isn't the goal to win the conference, and more if you deserve it? Look, we can keep debating this stuff for as nauseum. But that was almost 60 years ago. You can keep making this argument. But what the hell has the admin done to “rectify” this problem. You need to look at reality. There are not many in decision making positions that really give a crap about Tech athletics. They are way more invested in partnerships with tech companies and nano technologyAnd it wasn't a SEC matchup, so those teams could still recruit against us with the "come play in the SEC" mantra. What do we play the game for? Support for the program at the top, would have led to better attendance and less debt. But huge annual conference payouts would have prevented our financial disaster.
